明万历四十七年（1619）吏部员外郎宋文昌撰写《胡太兴福寺碑记》载：“邑有胡太里，有胡太寺”。庙内一尊白色大理石卧佛石雕释迦牟像，据史料记载，此像出自明朝，具有很高的艺术欣赏价值和历史研究价值。胡太庙有已沿袭至今的胡太庙会。
