补博士弟子员。性豪放好奇。工诗文。书法真、草、隶、篆，无所不能。山水近沈周，晚年笔意挺秀，点色清妍，深于画理，“似而不似，不似而似”是他的创见。著有《画尘》及《枕瓢》、《焚砚诸集》。

沈（1586—1661），一作。字朗倩，号石天，相城区（今苏州市）人。

顺治十八年（1661）题陈元素墨兰图，时年七十六，图藏故宫博物院。
